Məlumat

Nottingham Forest, founded in 1865, is one of the oldest football clubs in England. They joined the Football League in 1892 and won the FA Cup six years later in 1898. The clubs golden era came in the late 1970s and early 1980s, a time when English teams dominated European football. From 1977, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa collectively won six consecutive European Cup titles. In January 1975, Brian Clough was appointed as manager, marking the start of Forests most successful period. Most of the clubs trophies were won under his leadership. In the 197677 season, Clough guided Forest to promotion to the First Division. The following season, they won both the league title and the League Cup. Cloughs success captivated fans as Forests meteoric rise continued. In the 197879 season, they claimed their first European Cup, defeating reigning champions Liverpool 2-0 in the first round, followed by a 7-2 aggregate win over AEK Athens. They then progressed past Grasshopper Zurich and FC K?ln, and won the final 1-0 against Malm?. That same year, they retained the League Cup and finished runners-up in the league. The 197980 season saw Forest continue their European dominance, reaching the European Cup final once again by defeating Ajax in the semifinals. In the final, they overcame Hamburger SV 1-0. That season, they also won the UEFA Super Cup, but lost the Intercontinental Cup to Uruguays Nacional. Forest reached a third consecutive League Cup final, but narrowly lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. After their peak in the early 1980s, Forests fortunes declined. In the 198182 season, they finished 12th in the league, and spent subsequent years fluctuating in mid-table. Following the formation of the Premier League in 1992, Forest struggled and were relegated after finishing third from bottom. This marked the end of Cloughs 17-year tenure as manager. Frank Clark succeeded Clough, leading the team back to the top flight by finishing second in the First Division. The following season, Forest finished third in the Premier League, and in the 199596 season, they returned to European competition, reaching the UEFA Cup quarterfinals before being eliminated by Bayern Munich. However, their domestic form dipped, finishing ninth in the league. In the 199697 season, veteran player Stuart Pearce took on the roles of player-manager alongside Clark, but the team’s decline continued, culminating in relegation. Dave Bassetts appointment brought temporary revival, with Forest winning the First Division in 199798. However, boardroom issues and poor management decisions led to another relegation.Subsequent managerial changes, including the appointment of David Platt, failed to bring sustained success, and Forest remained mired in the lower divisions. In the 200203 season, they finished sixth in the First Division and reached the promotion playoffs but were narrowly defeated by Sheffield United, missing out on a return to the Premier League.Honours:English First Division Champions (pre-1992): 197778English First Division Champions: 199798English Second Division Champions: 190607, 192122FA Cup Winners: 1898, 1959League Cup Winners: 1978, 1979, 1989, 1990European Cup Winners: 1979, 1980UEFA Super Cup Winners: 1980Full Members Cup: 1989 (Simod Cup), 1992 (Zenith Data Systems Cup)Note: The Full Members Cup was introduced after English clubs were banned from European competition following the Heysel Stadium disaster in 1985.
